Lakeway is back on SweetBox, this time for a solo outing...
First appearing on PICKNMIX001 with 'Guns For Hire' Lakeway returns with more ammo for his debut solo single! Two distinctly grime infused uptempo tracks are on offer here, a little treat just before Lakeway drops his forthcoming EP on Diffrent Music later this year.
'Fireblast Riddim' brings together eerie atmospheres and drones before building up via intense militant percussion and climaxing into a stomping sub bass driven rhythm. Scattered drum work coupled with vocal chops and effects keep the progression strong in this track, which borrows heavily from Grime and Footwork styles.
On the flipside 'Remove You' delivers more of the same coupled with devastating low end pressure and pulse bass stabs. Innocent eski style leads float on top of this dark sonic landscape, Lakeway bringing an unexpected innocence to this otherwise gloomy production.
This album is an enjoyable paradox, caught not just between jungle and halftime, but rather, both extremes concurrently. I'm not sure whether to slide these tunes into a hip-hop set, or break it down from a d'n'b set. This unsure feeling of speed subversion and beat delusion... I love it. pC
Everything about this release from the cheeky label name and catalogue symbol, to the minimalistic design of the sticker to the music itself is awesome. Then again who could expect less from the Om Unit + Sam Binga duo? Love the diversity of sounds on this as well. Alegria
