More new blood on SweetBox as Brighton’s Constrict joins the Diffrent Music sister label, cutting two distinct paths deep into the jungle with ‘Refereshers’ and ‘Notice To Thieves’.

As the days begin to get longer, ‘Refreshers’ provides one of the year’s first sunset stormers. Blissed out pads, airy vocals and gently cascading keys offer a touch of old school nostalgia, like the reassuring pink of an evening sky. It’s a false sense of security, however, as when darkness sets in all hell is unleashed — junglists, brace yourselves!

B-side ‘Notice To Thieves’ takes a more ritualistic route. Thundering kicks march the track along relentlessly through a dense swamp of gnarled synth work, bubbling acid, and lost sirens that call out in vain through the murk.

Constrict has become something of a ‘one to watch’ in recent years, and this latest drop solidifies his reputation as one of the UK’s most promising young talents. Grab it on digital and limited 10” press from Friday 24th April.

This album is an enjoyable paradox, caught not just between jungle and halftime, but rather, both extremes concurrently. I'm not sure whether to slide these tunes into a hip-hop set, or break it down from a d'n'b set. This unsure feeling of speed subversion and beat delusion... I love it. DJ Home Movies
